Donna R. Thompson

Donna ThompsonDonna R. Thompson is the publishing director and owner of Woodpecker Press, LLC, a publishing company designed to help authors self-publish. Woodpecker Press also publishes the Big Bold Business (TM) Series of business books. Donna is also president and owner of drtEnterprises, LLC, an editing business that she ran from 1985 to 1993 and reestablished in 2004. In between, she worked in the Technical Publishing Department of ASME International for 10 years, where she served in various publishing positions, culminating with a promotion to managing editor of reference publications. As such, she was responsible for all aspects of journal production for several technical engineering journals and an online abstracts database product.

Publishing is Donna’s passion, and her career in publishing spans over 35 years. Currently, drtEnterprises focuses on providing editorial services to scholarly journals, proceedings, and book publishers, as well as publishing and public relations services for individual authors, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. Donna has also served as senior editor for inBiz Magazine and contributing editor for Suburban Essex and Vicinity magazines for Vicinity Media Group, and has had hundreds of press releases about her clients published in local, regional, and statewide newspapers and magazines.

Early in her career, Donna was assistant editor of trade magazines Aerosol Age and Fuel Oil and Oil Heat for Industry Publications, and associate editor of Plating and Surface Finishing for the American Electroplaters’ Society.

Donna has also been active in her community, serving on the Cedar Grove Board of Education for four years (two as president). She cofounded the Cedar Grove Education Foundation, Inc., in 2003 and has served as president from 2005 to 2008. Donna is also an active member of the Essex County Chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO), serving on the Board of Trustees since 2005. She received the chapter’s Teal Heart Award in 2007 for her outstanding contributions to the organization and was named NJAWBO Essex Businesswoman of the Year in 2009.

In addition, Donna served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Rutgers-Newark Small Business Development Center from 2006 to 2008. She is also a past member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Society for Scholarly Publishing.

Donna and her husband, Peter, have been married for over 30 years. They enjoy spending time with family, bird watching, boating, dining on great seafood, and being near the ocean.
